Number to Words Converter writes a figure out in English words. Enter 4382 and you get four thousand three hundred and eighty-two. It handles numbers up to the trillions, negative values and decimals, and it gets the hyphenation right, which is the part people most often get wrong when writing an amount by hand.
A currency mode produces the phrasing used on cheques and in contracts: the whole part in words, followed by the fractional part, followed by the word only, which exists to stop anyone adding digits to the end. You can set the names of the major and minor units so it works for pounds and pence, dollars and cents, or rupees and paise alike.
An ordinal mode turns a number into its position form, so 21 becomes twenty-first. That is useful for dates, rankings and anywhere a list has to be read aloud. British English puts and before the tens, as in one hundred and five. American English usually omits it, giving one hundred five. Both are correct within their own convention, so pick the one your document follows and stay consistent.
In plain mode the decimal part is read digit by digit after the word point, which is how numbers are normally spoken. In currency mode it becomes the minor unit, so 12.50 reads as twelve pounds and fifty pence.
Up to the trillions, which covers anything likely to appear on a cheque or an invoice. Beyond that the naming conventions diverge between countries and become unreliable.
It turns a number into its position form: first, second, twenty-first, one hundredth. This is what you need for dates and rankings rather than quantities.
Yes. The names of the major and minor units are both editable, so you can set rupees and paise, euros and cents, or any other pair.
