PNG to JPG Converter turns a PNG into a JPEG. This is the conversion people reach for when a file is too large to email, too large to upload, or rejected by a form that only accepts JPEG.
The saving is usually dramatic for photographs. A PNG stores every pixel exactly; a JPEG approximates, discarding detail the eye is poor at noticing. For a photograph that trade is almost invisible and the file often ends up five or ten times smaller. For a screenshot, a logo or anything with sharp edges and flat colour, the same trade produces visible smudging around the edges, and PNG was the better choice to begin with.
Transparency needs a decision. JPEG has no alpha channel at all, so anything transparent has to become a solid colour. This page lets you choose which colour, defaulting to white, and tells you when the image you chose actually has transparent areas, so the result is never a surprise.
The conversion happens inside your browser using the canvas API. The file is read from your device, drawn, and read back out in the new format. It is never sent to a server, which means there is no upload wait, no queue, no file size limit imposed by someone else's hosting, and nothing of yours sitting on a stranger's disk afterwards.
The png to jpg converter is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
They are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default. JPEG has no alpha channel, so there is no way to keep transparency. The tool detects whether your image has any and says so before you download.
For a photograph, usually between five and ten times smaller at a sensible quality setting. For a screenshot or a flat-colour graphic the saving is smaller and the quality cost is more visible, so PNG may be the better format to keep.
0.85 is a good default: the loss is hard to see and the file is small. Below about 0.6 you will start to notice blocky artefacts around edges and in gradients.
Yes, by design. JPEG is a lossy format, which is where the size saving comes from. The original PNG on your device is untouched, so you can always convert again at a higher quality.
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the image never leaves your device and there is no upload wait.
You can convert the JPG back to PNG, but the detail JPEG discarded will not return. Keep the original PNG if you may need it.
