PNG to JPG Converter
Turn PNG files into JPG without uploading them anywhere.
Convert JPG images to PNG in your browser.
Converted on your device with the canvas API. Nothing is uploaded.
Lower values mean a smaller file and more visible loss of detail.
PNG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with this colour.
JPG to PNG Converter turns a JPEG photograph into a PNG image. PNG is lossless, so once the file is converted nothing further is thrown away, and it supports transparency, which JPEG does not.
It is worth being clear about what conversion can and cannot do. JPEG is a lossy format: when the photo was first saved, detail was discarded to make the file small, and that detail is gone. Converting to PNG preserves exactly what is in the JPEG now, but it cannot recover what the original camera saw. The usual result is a larger file containing the same picture, because PNG stores every pixel faithfully instead of approximating it.
That makes this conversion right for some jobs and wrong for others. It is right when a system demands PNG, when you are about to edit the image repeatedly and want no further loss, or when you need to add transparency. It is wrong as a way of improving a photograph, and it is wrong for a large photo destined for a web page, where the PNG will usually be several times the size.
The conversion happens inside your browser using the canvas API. The file is read from your device, drawn, and read back out in the new format. It is never sent to a server, which means there is no upload wait, no queue, no file size limit imposed by someone else's hosting, and nothing of yours sitting on a stranger's disk afterwards.
The jpg to png converter is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
No. The detail a JPEG discarded when it was first saved cannot be recovered. The PNG will contain exactly the picture that is in the JPEG now, stored losslessly from this point on. The file will usually be larger without looking any better.
Because PNG is lossless. JPEG gets its small size by approximating the image; PNG stores every pixel exactly. For a photograph, that usually means a file several times larger. For a screenshot or a graphic with flat colours, PNG is often smaller.
The converted image is fully opaque, because the JPEG it came from had no transparency to carry over. The file supports an alpha channel, so you can add transparency in an editor afterwards.
No. The file is read and converted by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, which is why the conversion is instant even for large files and why there is no size limit beyond your device's memory.
Neither. The tool is free, adds nothing to the image, and you can convert as many files as you like.
