Find and Replace Text
Replace text everywhere at once, with case options and regex support.
Compare two versions of a text and see exactly what changed.
Text Diff Checker puts two versions of the same text side by side and marks what changed. Added lines are highlighted in green, removed lines in red, and everything untouched is shown plain so the changes stand out. A summary above the result counts the additions, deletions and unchanged lines.
The comparison uses a longest-common-subsequence algorithm, the same approach that version control tools use. That matters because it finds the real alignment between the two versions rather than comparing line one to line one. Insert a paragraph at the top of a document and the tool reports one addition, not a file where every line moved.
Options let you ignore things that do not matter to you: leading and trailing whitespace, differences in capitalisation, or empty lines. You can also switch from comparing lines to comparing words, which is the better view when two paragraphs differ by a handful of words rather than whole lines.
The text diff checker is used by writers, developers, students, marketers and anyone else who needs the job done once without installing software. Common cases include:
It finds the longest sequence of lines common to both versions and treats everything outside that as added or removed. This is the same family of algorithm that version control systems use, so inserting a line near the top does not mark the rest of the file as changed.
When the two versions have the same overall shape but differ inside sentences. Line comparison would mark the whole line as removed and re-added; word comparison shows just the words that changed.
Yes. Code is just text as far as this tool is concerned, and the whitespace options help when indentation changed but logic did not. For a review workflow, a proper version control diff is still the better tool.
No. Every changed line is also labelled as added or removed in text, so the result is readable without relying on colour vision.
No. The comparison runs in your browser, which makes it safe for contracts, unpublished drafts and configuration files containing internal detail.
Documents of a few thousand lines compare almost instantly. Very large files will take longer because the alignment work grows with the size of both inputs.
