About the HTML Link Generator

HTML Link Generator turns a URL and some anchor text into a finished link, with the attributes that decide how search engines and browsers treat it. You get the HTML anchor tag, the Markdown equivalent and the BBCode version, each ready to copy.

The rel attribute is where most of the thinking goes. Nofollow tells search engines not to pass ranking credit through the link. Sponsored marks a paid or affiliate link, and ugc marks one that came from user-generated content such as a comment. Noopener and noreferrer protect the page you are linking from when the link opens in a new tab, and the tool adds noopener automatically whenever you choose that target, because leaving it off is a genuine security problem.

Everything updates as you type, and the preview shows the link rendered the way a browser would draw it, so you can check the anchor text reads naturally before you paste the code anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use nofollow, sponsored or ugc?

Use sponsored for paid placements and affiliate links, ugc for links inside comments and forum posts, and nofollow when you want to link to something without endorsing it. Search engines treat all three as hints about the nature of the link rather than as commands to ignore it entirely.

Why does noopener get added automatically?

A link that opens in a new tab gives the destination page a reference back to yours through the window opener property, which it can use to redirect your page. Adding noopener removes that reference. Modern browsers do this by default now, but older ones do not, so the attribute is still worth including.

Does the anchor text really matter for search?

Yes, and it matters most to the page being linked to. Descriptive anchor text tells search engines and readers what they will find. Click here tells them nothing, and it is also poor for anyone using a screen reader to scan a list of links.

Should links open in a new tab?

Sparingly. Taking control of the back button away from readers is a known annoyance, and screen reader users may not be told the tab changed. A new tab makes sense for a document or a tool someone will return from, and much less sense for an ordinary article link.

What does the title attribute do?

It shows a tooltip on hover in most desktop browsers. It is optional, invisible on touch devices and inconsistently announced by screen readers, so never put essential information in it.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The markup is assembled in your browser, so draft URLs and client work stay on your device.
